Copy-editing

You know what you are trying to say, but will the reader understand the meaning? Asking a professional editor for help is one of the most cost-effective ways of improving your business' marketing materials or your chances of getting published.

My copy-editing service does two things: One - edits the work to a consistent style, either by following or developing a 'house style'; and Two - works closely with you to bring out the best in the document, either through making minor changes, rephrasing sentences or rewriting complete sections (see Code of Practice).

The aim is to improve clarity, make the text interesting so it engages the reader's attention, and keep it to the point, while at the same time maintaining the author's characteristic tone and 'voice'. The intended readership is taken into account when making suggestions for improvements. Queries relating to facts, safety and legal matters will be sensitively raised. This service also includes all the checks made in the proofreading service.

Effective communication of your ideas, products or services is essential to your success. This service helps you polish up your text before it is typeset for publication, thus saving you time and money.

Copy-editing is easier on a double-spaced, hard copy printout of your text. I will accept Microsoft Word or Adobe pdf documents by email (please virus check all documents before sending them).

If it is preferable I can edit your document on-screen using either Adobe Acrobat editing or Microsoft Word 'Track Changes'. Generally, though, I will work on a printout, and return it to you by post or courier (any printing charges, if applicable, will be included in your quote).
