Katarzyna Piper Editorial Services Freelance proofreading and copy-editing

About Me

Katarzyna Piper
Whilst studying for my PhD I discovered a great passion for writing and editing. After successfully publishing six scientific research papers in international journals (see below) I was inspired to embark on a career in editing and proofreading.

I have worked as a freelance writer for the Epoch Times newspaper for two years, producing over 40 science and technology articles. I edited the website and newsletters for the Australian human rights organisation Free China for one year (2005-6), and currently do proofreading for the Cornwall Wildlife Trust on a voluntary basis.

I am able to offer specialist skills in science and natural history proofreading and editing.

As a native of Cornwall I have a good knowledge of the region, but have also lived abroad (Australia) and enjoy travelling (Canada, USA, Europe, Asia). My other interests include hiking, knitting, card making, playing the piano, classical music and traditional Chinese culture.

Testimonials

"After much looking around on the web, looking for editing services for my book, I plumped for "Editorial services". Their price for editing services seemed very, very reasonable. I suppose a face to face contact would help you to decide, but this is 2008. There was a genuine interest in my book and I guess this sort of gave me a face to face feeling. Editorial services kept in regular contact with me through out. They were quite quick and very efficient and I would have no hesitation in recommending their services." Timothy J Mason, author of "The Best That I Can Be".

"Kat has done a fabulous job for me. 155 page report turned round super quick and with some very insightful comments. It certainly unblocked the writing log jam for me! Her comments are kind yet constructive - no sense of some-one ripping into your precious words!
Thanks Kat."
Tim Curtis, Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, University of Oxford.

I was lead author and editor of the multi-authored review paper:

Piper, K. J., E. M. G. Fitzgerald and T. H. Rich. 2006. Mesozoic to early Quaternary mammal faunas of Victoria, southeast Australia. Palaeontology 49: 1237-1262.

Here are some of the responses of the editors and reviewers:

"You will see that both the reviewers had a very high opinion of your work, which is all the more impressive given the long temporal scope of your paper. Very well done indeed." Dr P. handling editor, Palaeontology.

"I found very few places where I was compelled to correct or modify their otherwise excellent report" Anonymous reviewer.

"I think it is a very well written, clear and informative summary ... It is difficult to see any way in which it could be improved." Dr W. reviewer.

Comments on my single-authored paper:

Piper, K. J., 2006. A new species of Palorchestidae (Marsupialia) from the Pliocene and early Pleistocene of Victoria. Alcheringa Special Issue 1: 281-294.

"A pleasure to deal with such a well prepared ms." Dr M. handling editor, CAVEPS 2005 editorial committee.

"It is very satisfying to know that this important and interesting species of Palorchestes [an extinct marsupial] has finally been described and named and that Piper has done an excellent job on it." Dr M. reviewer.
